It’s pretty hard to miss it when a 6’9” left-hander walks to the mound. Feehan’s own, Brody Bumila, is a star pitcher, committed to the University of Texas at Austin, who can throw his fastball up to 100 mph. He is being looked at by many Major League Baseball (MLB) teams and could be taken as a top pick in this year’s draft. He excels both on the field and off it. He participates in many activities at Feehan. He led the varsity basketball team to winning the state championship this year, but he isn’t just an athlete; he serves as a Campus Ministry Senior Associate and is a leader of the Feehan Fanatics. He participates in school-wide masses, fundraisers, and supports other athletes by helping lead the student fan section with the Fanatics. “They’ll [the Feehan community] remember him as someone who wasn’t the stereotypical jock, poor-attitude athlete. He’s someone who doesn’t care if you’re one of his senior classmates or a freshman — he’s gonna treat you well.” Says Feehan’s varsity baseball coach, Joe Breen. He pitched only half a season in his sophomore year. He had gotten hurt and underwent surgery; he did not pitch an inning for about 20 months. “He’s had to deal with a lot of adversity, and I think that has created an atmosphere around our team and the program where guys start to see that you can have setbacks and still have success.” Said Coach Breen. He has made a huge impact on the Bishop Feehan Baseball Program. He recently set a new school record for the most strikeouts in a single game with 20 strikeouts in 7 innings against Moses Brown on May 8th.
Brody will leave a lasting legacy at Feehan. He was recently awarded the Sister M. Vincent Ferrer Cox, RSM Man of the Year for the Class of 2026 at the graduation ceremony on May 28, 2026. He is someone who will be looked up to by other students for years to come. “He’s likely gonna go down as the best athlete to ever walk through the school.” Says Coach Breen. Brody isn’t a selfish athlete; he cares about his team and how he impacts the school. He is a lead-by-example kind of person. He works hard, and other students and athletes notice that. The 6’9” lefty will eventually pitch his final game at Beach Field, but the standard Brody Bumila set at Bishop Feehan High School will remain. Whatever his future may hold, as a Longhorn in Texas or playing for the MLB, he will forever be a Shamrock.
He is not done yet, though. Brody and the Shamrocks are moving on to the semifinals on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
