On April 13th, Heritage Week began here at Feehan. Heritage Week is a celebration of different cultures and backgrounds that are found within the student body and faculty. Some background information on Heritage Week is that it was first established in February of 2024, but was moved slightly later into the school year to better align with other school events. This year the main events of Heritage Week started with a TAG Day on Monday. This TAG Day was composed of students representing their cultural backgrounds by wearing either colors that represent a specific nations flag, or traditional clothing from their respective cultures. Next was Tuesday, where the Feehan Multicultural Association held a Rock Talk led by Feehan students to spread some fascinating information about their own cultures. Students; Sarah Honoré ‘27, JJ Bercachi ‘27, Yesha Samar ‘29, and Layla Firmin ‘29 all represented Haiti, Lebanon, Egypt, and India incredibly well and did an amazing job presenting! Now on Thursday is the staple event for Heritage Week. FMA hosts its big potluck where different dishes from different cultures are served in the Rock all lunch period. Dishes consisted of food from Jamaica to the Philippines to India and many more. Many students stopped by to grab a plate of food, including me. Personally, I liked the jollof rice the best. Finally to finish out the week on Friday, there was a procession during the Spring rally where students, teachers, and administrators held flags representing different countries. In total, Heritage Week is a great opportunity for the Feehan community to learn and grow their understanding of everyone’s different backgrounds and cultures. As Mr. Grant describes the impact of Heritage Week as: “adding another layer of community to Feehan,”.
