Tia LaBrecque ‘27 is a soccer star whose journey showcases talent, determination, and resilience. LaBrecque turned the challenges of being legally deaf into motivation, excelling at Bishop Feehan and earning a spot in the U.S. Women’s Deaf National Team. Her story reflects not only individual excellence, but also the breaking of barriers and inspiring others both on and off the field.
LaBrecque’s love for soccer began at a young age. She started playing at the age of four. She had explored other sports and even competitive dance, but always found her way back to soccer. “I loved it since I was little, and I always had a soccer ball at my feet,” LaBrecque stated, describing how soccer quickly became more than just a hobby.
A defining moment of LaBrecque’s soccer career came when she earned a spot in the U.S. Women’s Deaf National Team as the youngest player on the roster. After attending four national team camps, she received the unforgettable call confirming she had officially made the team. Representing the United States in Japan was a remarkable experience for LaBreque, from the opening and closing ceremonies to winning the gold medal. The team as a whole “had so much pride representing our country.”

Playing for the U.S. National Team, her NEFC GA club team, and Bishop Feehan has shaped LaBrecque into a well-rounded player and leader. Each team has taught her how to adapt to different levels of competition while staying humble and respectful. Looking ahead, her goals focus on continuous growth and improvement. She hopes to one day play Division I soccer in college, but remains grounded and grateful for the opportunities she has earned, stating how she loves “what I do and will take it day by day.”
