The Bishop Feehan Theater Company put on a spectacular performance of Matilda: The Musical earlier this month. The show played December 5, 6, and 7 to an almost packed house each night.
Matilda: The Musical tells the story of a little girl named Matilda who has a difficult home life and is sent to a school run by Ms. Trunchbull, a world-class hammer-throwing champion. From school, she learns the importance of friendship and standing up to bullies with the help of her classmates, her best friend Lavender, the librarian, and her teacher, Ms. Honey.
There were some standout performances onstage with Matilda being played by Leah Collins ‘27, Anita Camp ‘27 as Ms. Honey, Jack Handren ‘27 as Ms. Trunchbull, Sophi Collins ’28 as Mrs. Phelps, Elizabeth Musial ‘26 as Mrs. Wormwood, and Matthew Roslonek ‘26 as Mr. Wormwood.
There were also many notable people backstage, with stage manager and set design lead Myles Flores ‘26, Sydney Merhige ‘26 as student director, Eva Bennett ‘26 leading costume crew, Charlotte Brenizer ‘27 and Ava Albonetty ‘27 leading props crew, Nolan O’Callahan ‘27 as lighting lead, Ashlyn Langone ‘27 as projections lead, Emma Andrade ‘28 as sound lead, Elijah Hopke’27 as stage crew lead, and many assistant stage managers helping to organize backstage and give the actors and crew members directions.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the invaluable support and guidance from director and choreographer, Mrs. Strunin; music director, Mrs. Seals; choreographers, Mrs. Roche and Mrs. Fowler; and engineering teacher, Mrs. Gomez. There were also many others involved, including a parent building crew, Mrs. Strunin’s Stagecraft & Design Class and Creative Dance II Class, Mrs. Gomez’s Engineering/CAD Class, and the hired band.
Overall, Bishop Feehan’s production of Matilda: The Musical was a great success for the theater department and a great example of how it takes a village to reach the highest potential of any project.
