With a culture that favors single use items and waste at an all time high, the need for education and action about sustainability is clear. This is why Feehan’s brand new club, Project Green: The Shamrock Sustainability Club is stepping in to provide some of that education and action to the Feehan community.
Founded by Alex Ombati and Ethan Miao and moderated by Mrs. Nolan, the SSC aims to impact the local community’s environment through education, planning, and action.
Educating is the first big way of impacting an individual’s life for the better. This is why the SSC uses educating its members as a gateway into creating a more eco-friendly community. The club meets bi-weekly, usually in room 219, and meetings consist of two different types,
educating and planning.
Educating meetings teach members on subjects such as climate change, carbon footprints, green technology, and how to reduce different types of pollution. Planning meetings are where members start using the ideas that they gained from the education meetings and apply them to real world scenarios. Planning meetings are meetings where they scheme on how they can positively impact the surrounding environment. They do this through events. All though SSC hasn’t officially ran any events, ideas such as park cleanups and a Feehan Beautification have been in the works for the club too.
So, if you are passionate about making a difference in encouraging sustainability and promoting positive habits that can change our local environment, make sure to drop by room 219 on Thursday mornings, (there are donuts!), for SSC meetings, or join the club’s Google Classroom with the code: 7ix7wesr.
