In the far back left room of the Student Counseling Center, you’ll find Mrs. Rose, Feehan’s adjustment counselor. She is an outstanding example of a truly dedicated Feehan staff member.
Here at Feehan, there are six different school counselors who all have students assigned to them. They schedule quarterly meetings with the students they’re assigned to and help them with various tasks, such as assisting in the college application process or creating a class schedule for students. However, Mrs. Rose’s job of adjustment counselor differs from the traditional school counselor. In an interview with the ‘Rock Report, she describes being an adjustment counselor as paralleling a school nurse’s work. For example, a school nurse is someone who you would be going to when you have a sore throat or you get a bad bruise during P.E. and you need ice. Mrs. Rose parallels this, but for general mental health. An example is if a student is feeling stressed and overwhelmed or having anxiety through the school day, Mrs. Rose is an amazing resource that they have.
Now, what influenced Mrs. Rose to become an adjustment counselor? Well, she’s always known that she wanted to work in education. She used to play “teacher” with her friends, and the notion of teaching stayed consistent with her throughout high school and college. After college, when she started teaching actual students, she found herself curious about why some students were having more success than others in the classroom. She was drawn towards the students who were having some difficulty learning, and she took time to get to know them. She then realized that many of them were getting through some big challenges in their life, and it was affecting their performance at school. She also learned that some of the students would connect with their adjustment counselors during the school day. This was an “ah-ha” moment for her, and she realized her true calling in an educational setting. She then changed her mind and switched from teaching to adjustment counseling, and for the past thirteen years, she’s loved it.
Outside of her job, Mrs. Rose has two boys, six and eight, and a cat. She loves traveling, and during college, she backpacked through Europe and studied abroad in Australia. Mrs. Rose also is the administrator of Coping with Pawsitivity.
Mrs. Rose is the embodiment of someone who will always put you before herself and upholds one of Feehan’s core values of stewardship. She truly is one of the most caring people you’ll find at Feehan, so don’t be afraid to stop by her office if you’re going through anything!

Alex! I’ve never been interviewed for an article before. I’m so impressed with your ability to take our Q&A and create a cohesive story. So cool.
Also – Your voice is prominent in your writing. I can hear you while I read it. I’m not a journalist but I feel like that’s a good thing
Thank you for thinking of me for this month’s spotlight. I can’t wait to see who you spotlight in November!
