Every year, the students of Bishop Feehan High School contribute to a school-wide service project in which they collect money and donate food to give many families in need a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner. Each homeroom is designated a bucket and each honor society, club, or sports team can sign up to have one or more baskets for collection. The members of each aforementioned group then chooses an item or two to bring in as well as bringing at least one dollar to contribute to purchasing a turkey for their designated family. Also, each homeroom, club, honor society, or sport can elaborately decorate their basket for a chance to win the basket decorating competition. The winner of the basket decorating competition is recognized at the end of the Thanksgiving Mass.

The National Honor Society organizes the entire project. They deliver all the baskets, remind the students in each homeroom to bring in their items, and finally, they present the baskets during the annual Thanksgiving Mass.

The Thanksgiving Mass is a distinguished part of autumn at Feehan. Bishop Da Cunha arrives and blesses the Thanksgiving baskets which are presented by the National Honor Society, and he also gives the Feehan students his traditional day off. Before the Mass has ended, Mr. Kane will announce who wins the Turkey basket decorating contest. This year, due to COVID-19, Mr. Kane got to announce both this year and last year’s winner, which was Mrs. Smith and her homeroom 115 both years. When the mass has ended, the students in the National Honor Society, first, gather for a picture with the baskets, and then, they pair up and bring the baskets outside to be loaded into the vehicles for the organizations the baskets are going to.

These Thanksgiving baskets give families in need the opportunity to have a beautiful and delicious Thanksgiving dinner.
