With the end of the school year comes the inevitable: college commitments, caps and gowns, and many, many tears. Although graduation is an extremely exciting and significant time, many high school seniors including myself can’t help but think about how we got to this point in our lives.
As we reflect on our time in high school, we’re met with fond memories, fulfilling relationships and connections, and a sense of sentimental nostalgia from the past four years.
We asked a small number of seniors about their thoughts on their high school experience here at Feehan to get a consensus on how Bishop Feehan seniors feel about graduating and their time here on Holcott. These seniors were asked 1) their favorite memory of high school, 2) what they are going to miss the most about high school, and 3) if they had any advice to give to the rising seniors.
Owen Hanna ‘25:
- My favorite memory of high school was being on the golf practice squad at the beginning of this year. Although this is a recent memory, it’s my favorite because I was playing with many of my good friends I have grown up with throughout my four years. We weren’t good at golf but it didn’t really matter because I formed great relationships with people I’ve never met and stronger relationships with the ones I had.
- I am going to miss not sharing the same math class as my buddies James and Domenic. Those two kids have been in every math class I have ever taken in high school. Although many teachers would argue that we may talk too much, I genuinely think those two guys are what made me get by in math in the first place.
- My advice to rising seniors is to be seriously motivated in your first semester so you can enjoy your second semester. College apps come up very fast so just stay dedicated and persevere. Second semester is where you can relax and enjoy what is left of your high school experience.
Sarah Fitzpatrick ‘25:
- My favorite memory of high school would be the last week of school as a senior. Tie-dying shirts, senior sunset, decorating cars, and all being together as a class have been my favorite.
- I am going to miss seeing my friends every day. The friendships that I made here at Feehan are some of the best ones and not being able to come into school and spend X periods and lunches with one another is one thing I will miss.
- Stay on task and do your work!! You do not want to have to come in to take finals at the end of the year!! Work hard, play hard!!
Madelyn Steel ‘25:
- My favorite memory from high school is winning the basketball state championship during my junior year. It was a really special moment because we had lost the championship the year before and had worked really hard to get back to the finals.
- I am going to miss seeing my friends every day. I am also going to miss playing basketball on the Feehan court with the girls I have played with since middle school. I am also going to miss the amazing support of the teachers and students.
- My advice to the rising seniors is to enjoy every day because the school year goes by really fast.
Emma Roveda ‘25:
- My favorite memory of high school was senior year homecoming week!
- I’m going to miss Feehan’s school spirit and community. I loved attending all of the sports games with my friends and cheering them on.
Rohit De ‘25:
- In general, the best memories I had were when I spent time with friends, whether it was at dances, clubs, or just during classes or lunches. One grade-wide memory that sticks out to me is winning the College Bowl this year; it was the culmination of four years of attempts, and it was really nice to see the grade all together in support and celebration.
- I am going to miss my friends and teachers the most. I met some amazing people, so I’ll definitely miss them and the groups I shared with them. It’ll be hard to leave my clubs behind, too; all of them had distinct atmospheres that made them so special. My teachers were great throughout high school, too; I enjoyed learning from them and talking to them.
- Start college application essays early! It doesn’t have to be on August 1 (I started in September), but don’t put it off until October. Setting deadlines for specific amounts of writing was really helpful for me. Other than that, enjoy the ride! It goes by quickly, so enjoy the moments.
Caitlin Hinckley ‘25:
- My favorite memory of high school was Santa Shop. Watching how it brought our community together was truly inspiring, and all the eager students to help families in need is amazing.
- I’m going to miss the environment of high school the most. Seeing your friends each day during passing periods, X periods, and passing by Mr. King for a high five are things that I will not forget.
- My greatest advice for the rising seniors is to cherish each moment. You always hear the saying that it goes by in the blink of an eye, and it truly does. It will be over before you know it.
Samuel Martin ‘25:
- My favorite memory is the homecoming rally and skits. It was really fun to participate in and they always came together in the end.
- I’m gonna miss seeing all of my friends and teachers every day. School is the only place where this happens, and we are all about to go our separate ways, so I’m gonna miss seeing everyone every day.
- My advice is to take every opportunity to do something fun or go on an adventure with people.
Ritika Roy ‘25:
- Some of my favorite memories in high school were running cross country, working with teammates in robotics, and the homecoming dances.
- I will miss the gatherings, such as dances and plays the most.
- My advice to rising seniors is to stand by your choices. No one can achieve every merit, it is best to pick your path and stick to one’s goals.
Grace Forbes ‘25:
- My favorite high school memory would have to be winning Prom Queen and Feehan’s Most Wanted on my birthday!
- I will definitely miss the volleyball program and all the friendships I made. Special shoutout to all my Spanish and science teachers throughout all 4 years!
- Some advice I would give to rising seniors is to express yourself, be open to new friendships, and enjoy every day! I made the mistake of wishing away days but now that I am graduating, I definitely regret not appreciating every day. Senior year is what you make it, so make sure to dance your heart away at homecoming!
Special thanks to all the seniors who sent in responses!
