The College Fair here at Feehan is a biannual event that showcases a variety of colleges for students. Every year there is a fair in the fall during X period and another in the spring after school. As of writing this, the spring College Fair was two weeks ago.
For this year’s college fair, 68 different colleges attend. Some of those colleges included Providence College, The University of Connecticut, The University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers University, The University of Tennessee, and The University of Alabama. Attending the event, there were about 350-400 people present.
This year’s Spring Fair was special as it introduced new technology for both students and college representatives. This year Feehan used StriveScan for the Fair. StriveScan improved the efficiency of the fair by reducing the times that students would have to provide contact information to the college representatives.
Students would have to simply fill out their information beforehand online, then they would have a QR code generated for themselves. The college representatives would then simply scan the QR code and the student’s information would automatically be sent into a database that the colleges would be able to access.
For more information on the College Fair, I interviewed Mrs. Taylor, the administrative assistant to the Feehan Counseling Department which organized the Fair this year. She described the benefits of students from any grade attending the College Fair. For students, they get used to asking important questions about colleges and they start to learn about what features of a college they prioritize.
It also helps to narrow down choices for juniors who may have already chosen a select amount of colleges to apply to. For sophomores and freshmen, the Fair can help them start thinking about what they need to accomplish in their classes so that they meet prerequisites. All around, the College Fair is an amazing opportunity for underclassmen to learn more about different colleges and paths that they would be able to take after their years at Feehan.
