Dear Lucky,
As a freshman this year, I cannot believe midterms are so soon! I don’t remember anything from the beginning of the year and I’m scared I’m going to fail these exams. My classes are getting harder and harder and I’m sure midterms week will be a complete mess for me! I am extremely stressed and would like to know if you have any tips on how students like me can deal with exams and the dreaded midterm season.
From,
Anxious Freshman
Dear Anxious Freshman,
I totally understand how you’re feeling. Each year, everyone at Feehan has to endure the long week of midterms as the second quarter comes to a close. Don’t let this get you down! Although midterms can be challenging at times, there are ways to significantly diminish this stress. Firstly, make sure you’re prepared for these exams. I would recommend splitting up your studying over multiple days before test day. By spending time each night preparing for your exams, feelings of anxiety can be reduced. Cramming for an exam the night before can not only be stressful but also unhelpful: splitting up your time during the nights leading up to your exam can actually help you retain more information!
Studying is not the only thing you should be utilizing while preparing for midterms, however; making sure you get a good night’s sleep during the entire midterm week is also essential to your success. By getting 8-10 hours of sleep, your body can consolidate the information you’ve studied, helping you remember more of the material. Before the exam, I would also recommend eating a good breakfast. Breakfast will give you the energy to perform your best when testing, making all those long hours of studying worth it. Lastly, remember that midterms don’t define who you are as a student or as a person. Even if an exam is especially difficult, putting in your best effort is all that matters.
I am wishing luck to you and the rest of the Feehan student body this midterm season!
Sincerely,
Lucky
