On November 13th, hundreds of highly competitive high school seniors participated in the National Initial Signing Day for their respective sports. At Feehan, the athletics department showcased some of our very own student-athletes as they committed to play at various universities and colleges. Among them was Bella Colitti, Feehan’s varsity field hockey captain, who signed her initial statement of intent to play for the Assumption University Greyhounds.
Even as a young girl, Colitti loved the game. Her drive and determination to get better shone through as she started playing for club field hockey teams and worked hard to make it onto Feehan’s varsity roster her freshman year.
Although the Feehan coaches and athletic department have impacted Colitti’s career thus far, she credits a lot of what she can accomplish to her club team and coaches. Club teams travel the country and play at various tournaments throughout the entire year which is where Colitti was recognized by her future college coach. “Before the game,” Colitti stated, “I had reached out to a bunch of coaches, including the Assumption coach, just to let them know that I’d be playing.” Having noticed her interest in the Greyhound’s program, Coach Lahey made an effort to attend the game and was able to watch Colitti’s performance. From here, she was able to do further research on the prospect through a film uploaded on a recruitment app. Seeing her high skill level and knowledge of the game, Coach Lahey called Colitti and reached out about a potential spot for her on the Assumption Greyhounds field hockey team.
After the call, Colitti went for her college visit and spent a weekend with the team. She admitted that the team’s welcoming environment and sense of community are what really drew her in. She went on to say that “the team was a big factor in [her] decision.” Of course, she loves the school and the coaches but the team aspect was a big deciding factor.
Having signed her initial statement of intent earlier this month, Bella Colitti has officially publicized her commitment to play for the Greyhounds. For anyone else going through the process of recruitment and managing college careers in general, Colitti recognizes that the ups and downs are a part of the process. However, “if you really stay with it and really want it, it’ll all come together.’
