With the colder weather approaching and Fall finally upon us, Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Psychology Club hosted its annual Thanksgiving meeting after school on Monday, November 18th this year to showcase the effects of gratitude on ourselves and those around us during the season of giving. Specifically, Psychology Club dove into the psychological effects of giving thanks and expanded on the benefits of being grateful: gratitude can improve relationships with those around us, whether that means our friends, families, or partners. To practice this mindfulness, club members were encouraged to make hand turkeys and write what they were grateful for to express their gratitude this month.
Psychology Club, led by Ella Nagle ‘25, Kate O’Connell ‘25, Kylie Hanewich ‘25, and Fiona McCally ‘25 and supervised by Ms. Corcoran ‘04, aims to share information about the scientific study of our brains that is prevalent to our everyday lives through creative presentations and fun activities. Every month, the Psychology club curates its meeting based on a specific theme, usually a holiday (i.e. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter), to focus on what specific psychology aspects are especially relevant to student lives. Along with these presentations, club members can participate in fun projects including coloring sheets, making decorations and cards, and more. Likewise, club members are invited to eat the complimentary snacks brought by the leaders!
Ella Nagle, one of the co-leaders and a Psych Club Member for her entire high school career, expanded on her love for Psych Club, stating, “Running Psych Club has taught me that there are many aspects in our daily lives that can be seen through the lens of psychology, and I love learning about them and sharing my knowledge through activities and presentations.”
Haley Cullinane ‘25, an active Psych Club member, has attended meetings for over two years. She describes Psych Club as one of her favorite clubs here at Feehan, stating, “The leaders do a great job of engaging club members in psychology, and I love ending with a fun activity every meeting!”
As one of the leaders myself, I have found Psych Club extremely rewarding to help run and be a part of. Seeing familiar faces every month helps make every meeting a fun space to grow and learn together. I strongly encourage anyone interested in psychology or looking for an after-school activity to hang out with friends at to consider joining Psychology Club. Everybody is welcome!
