Dear Lucky,
I am nervous for the end of quarter grades to come out. My grades are not as high as I would like, and I want to fix that. What should I do?
Sincerely,
Stressed Feehan Student
Dear Stressed Feehan Student,
First, check with your teachers if you are concerned about a grade. Ask about upcoming tests/quizzes, and any missing assignments you may have. Then, plan out the things you have to accomplish. Once you have done this you can begin studying and working. You should set up a study space where you have no distractions and can focus. If you have trouble focusing by yourself, you can study with a friend and ask them to help keep you focused. Another way to stay focused is the Pomodoro technique. This is when you focus on one task for 25 minutes straight, then take a short break, and then repeat. This has been proven to help keep focus while studying. During your study time, you can use different techniques to help remember information. First is mind-mapping. This is when you pick a central topic, then draw branches out of it with the different terms you need for each branch. Elaborate on each term as much as you can remember. Second is quizzing yourself. You can make up questions, and test yourself on the answers. Finally, the best way to retain information is to space out your studying- don’t cram. Good luck!
Sincerely, Lucky
