With home openers and the overall excitement of school sports starting up again, the Feehan Student section is expected to be bigger and better than ever this year. Under the guidance of Mrs. Smith, the Feehan Fanatics have been fully revamped to exemplify one of the highest levels of school spirit we have at Bishop Feehan. With that being said, there are some highly encouraged (if not required) things you can do to be an active part of the student section. Whether you are a new student or have been a shamrock for the past three years, here’s a crash course in Rowdy Crowd Etiquette.
Always check what the theme is before getting to the game. You don’t want to be the person in all-black at a whiteout game! Not to worry though- themes will always be posted on the Feehan Fanatics instagram and most likely talked about on the morning announcements that day. Themed games are a great way for you to have a lot of fun in the stands. Go all out with hats, face paint, tutus, glow sticks, and whatever else your heart desires. Just make sure that it fits the theme and is within the guidelines.
Arrival time is crucial to being a spectator. It is suggested to get to the location of a game around ten to fifteen minutes before it is supposed to start. You can also check the Fanatics Instagram page to see if there will be a tailgate or pregame activities being hosted. This goes for both home and away games- Feehan travels! Home games, thanks to the varsity club, are now free for all students so it is important to remember your school ID (or a picture of it) to ensure your free admission. Once you are in the venue of the event, go join the student section. Feehan Fanatics and seniors belong in the front with underclassmen behind them. Try to fill it up behind the upperclassmen before moving to the side.
Once you are in the student section, it’s time to get loud! Our cheerleaders and Feehan Fanatics will lead you in cheers and chants and it is important that you participate. Chants are said three times which gives the farther rows enough time to hear what is said and join in. Remember to be loud and have good sportsmanship in the stands. A big, active student section adds to the environment for our athletes and can also be intimidating to our opponents.
Show up and get loud! And of course, Go Shamrocks!
