Did you know that the month of April is declared as National Poetry Month? The history of poetry is dense, and its origins can be traced back to ancient civilizations. Although you might think you only read poetry when you are analyzing it in your English class, you likely hear poetry every day. Music can be considered a form of poetry, with most songs containing lyrics that feature similar, if not the same, characteristics to the techniques of poems. To recognize poetry this April, be inspired to read some poetry, write a poem, or put on your favorite song!
